Chiropractic

Our Chiropractic team will carry out a full assessment, including Orthopaedic and Neurological testing to diagnose your particular issue. They will then treat the relevant problem area, whether that involves the joints/muscles/nerves, and get to the root cause. That way, we can work with you, to prevent a recurrence of the initial issue.

What To Expect At Your First Appointment?

After a good chat about your symptoms, and how long they’ve been troubling you for, you will receive a thorough assessment, to ascertain a) What the current problem is, and b) What may be the cause. We’ll take you through a series of standard Orthopaedic and Neurological tests to assess the movement of your joints and muscles (your Biomechanics). It’s helpful if you can give us feedback throughout this process, so that we know exactly when the discomfort ‘kicks in’. We also would encourage you to bring someone with you for this appointment, as there can often be a lot of information to take in, and you or your companion may have questions that you or they would like to ask.

Once we’ve established the area/structures that are causing you issues, we will provide you with some treatment. This may involve soft tissue massage, gentle manipulation of the joints/muscles, or even some form of stretching, and advice. More often than not, you’ll receive a combination of these. Our aim is to change your symptoms. That way, we know that we’re providing the correct form of treatment for you. So be sure to let us know how things are feeling. Your feedback is crucial, and means that we can tailor your treatment to be the right fit.

We don’t agree with over treating patients. We know that by providing more treatment before your body is ready for it is really counter-productive, and can just make things really sore. So, we will usually book you a follow up appointment in for 10-14 days after your first visit. It is essential that you attend this for a couple of very good reasons. Firstly, we need hear your feedback. Secondly, you may feel much better, but that doesn’t mean that your issue is completely resolved, and left semi-treated, it could creep back again. This leads me to the final reason, which is so that we can re-assess you, and see exactly how things have changed. We will then give the appropriate treatment, or advice in order that you can continue along your recovery path. We may at this point start to give you more things that you can do between visits, to continue your rehabilitation. We will continue in this manner for the first 6 weeks (a tissue cycle), and then, depending how things are going, would aim to extend the length of time between visits. We have found that recovery is much improved when our patients have the motivation of a return visit.

The treatment and advice that we provide you with is always bespoke for you. We’re keen to get you better, and keep you well. This is mutually beneficial, as let’s face it, you become our walking, talking adverts. We therefore offer a great deal of support from the moment you arrive. Your body becomes our responsibility, and we want it to keep working for you, for as long as possible. We will never ask you to set up a direct debit, or pay upfront for a certain number of treatment sessions.

Chiropractic FAQs

A. We offer a Free Initial Consultation, if you’re not sure what type of treatment you need. This will be with one of our Chiropractors. They will ascertain which member of our team would be best for you to receive treatment from, whether that be a Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, or Sports Therapist. Our New Patient Appointments cost £66.00. These are an hour long, and will include a thorough assessment, and treatment. Our Standard Appointments cost £56.00. These are 30 minutes long, which gives us time to get an update from you, do a brief re assessment, and provide you with treatment and advice.

A. There’s no way of knowing exactly how long you’ll need to visit us for, or how many sessions you will need. We would normally say that you should expect to have at least 6 treatment sessions (as a guide). We initially would see you 10-14 days after your first appointment, and possibly the same kind of gap between the second and third. We would then be aiming at giving you some exercises/stretches to do, which if you follow our recommendations should mean that we can then space the next 3 sessions out a bit more. We may then recommend that you visit us with some regularity (3,6,12 months) for maintenance/MOT type visits. This does all depend on your particular injury/issue, and remember that we want to get to the root cause of your issue, and not just treat the symptoms.

A. As a clinic team, we offer the type of treatment that we have found to be effective over the years. We use our knowledge of Anatomy along with standard Orthopaedic tests, to find out what is wrong, and what is causing the issue. We then use a combination of treatment types (Stretches, gentle McTimoney techniques, and soft tissue work) to treat, rehabilitate, and prevent recurrence of the issue.

A. Here at the Anderson Clinic, our Chiropractic team has the greatest respect for our Osteopathic and Physiotherapy colleagues, and share the same values. In many ways, we are aiming to achieve the same goals, but by using slightly different techniques to produce the same results. We would say that on the whole, Osteopaths and Chiropractors share more similarities, than differences. The main thing is that whoever you choose, they should give you excellent care.

A. Whilst at the Anderson Clinic, we prefer not to use certain methods, which may produce the ‘cracking’ sound, occasionally a click may be produced whilst we’re stretching/mobilising joints. This is not your bones, so don’t worry. The noise is created by gases escaping from within the joint, whilst it is ‘gapped’.

A. Here at the Anderson Clinic, we are very experienced in treating all areas of the body, from the feet up. So whatever your issue, come and see us. You could always book a Free Initial Consultation to come and chat with one of our team. They will tell you whether your issue is something that the Chiropractor can treat. If it isn’t, they will direct you to the type of treatment that would be best.

A. We believe that it’s vitally important for patients to receive the same type, and same standard of treatment, no matter who they see at the Anderson Clinic. This provides better continuity, and also ensures that patients feel comfortable receiving treatment from different members of the team. This, in turn, gives the patients more options for appointments, enabling them to be seen quickly.

A. We are happy to provide a full invoice for you to send off to your insurance company. This means that you pay us for your treatment, and then claim it back from the insurance company. However, you should check with them that they cover Chiropractic/Physiotherapy treatment first. There are some companies that we no longer work with. At the moment these are: BUPA, & AXA PPP.
